Hōnen-ji

The temple grounds contain numerous stone lanterns and a recently constructed five-story pagoda surrounded by traditional Japanese gardens and ponds.

Founded in the early Edo period, Honen-ji served as the family temple for the Matsudaira clan, who ruled the Takamatsu domain for over 300 years.

The temple houses a large wooden reclining Buddha statue, known as the Sanuki Nehanzo, measuring three meters in length within its Three Buddha Hall.

Visitors can access Honen-ji by taking a 20-minute walk from Busshozan Station on the Kotoden Railway line, with parking available for 30 vehicles.

The temple grounds feature a representation of the Pure Land through a path called Niga Byakudo, leading pilgrims toward the Raigodo Hall.
