Ichinomiya-ji, Buddhist temple and pilgrimage site in Takamatsu, Japan
Ichinomiya-ji stands as temple number 83 on the Shikoku Pilgrimage circuit, featuring traditional Japanese Buddhist architecture with a main hall and pagoda.
Founded by monk Gien in the early 8th century, the temple underwent transformation when Kukai established it as a Shingon Buddhist center between 806 and 810.
The temple maintains regular Goma fire rituals on the 28th of each month, where participants gather to witness the ceremonial burning of wooden prayer sticks.
Located 10 minutes from Kotoden Ichinomiya Station, the temple provides free parking for 40 cars and offers sutra copying experiences without reservation.
The temple houses a 106-centimeter statue of Kannon carved during the Daido period, serving as its principal object of worship.
