木太, Residential district in Takamatsu, Japan
Kita is a residential district on the eastern side of Takamatsu, connecting the city center with outer areas near the Seto Inland Sea. The district has schools, shops, and medical facilities spread along its main roads.
The area was once farmland and gradually became a suburb as roads and bus lines linked Takamatsu more closely to the rest of Shikoku. New residents moved in over the decades, replacing fields with houses and local shops.
The area has several Buddhist temples where local festivals take place at different times of year. These gatherings follow seasonal rhythms and are often open to anyone passing through.
Buses run regularly between the district and Takamatsu Station, making it easy to get around without a car. Most shops and services are along the main roads and within walking distance of each other.
The name Kita (木太) literally means "thick wood" and points to the forested land that once covered this part of Takamatsu before it was settled. A few old trees along some streets are the only remaining trace of that earlier landscape.
