The Kagawa Museum

The Kagawa Museum, Art and history museum in Takamatsu, Japan

The Kagawa Museum is an art and history institution in Takamatsu that displays regional artifacts and contemporary artworks across multiple floors within a modern structure. The facility divides its exhibitions into distinct sections to present different aspects of local heritage and artistic expression.

The institution was established in 2008 from the merger of the Prefectural History Museum and the art section of Kagawa Cultural Hall. This combination brought regional history and contemporary art together in one location.

The collection displays traditional local crafts and rotating exhibitions exploring regional artistic movements that shaped the area. You can observe how these creative traditions continue to matter in the everyday life and identity of the region.

The building is located roughly 900 meters east of Takamatsu Station and welcomes visitors daily. You should allow plenty of time to walk through the different exhibition sections and explore the full range of collections at your own pace.

The institution hosts hands-on workshops where visitors can learn about traditional regional food practices and preparation methods. Interactive sessions also explore the artistic legacy of sculptor Isamu Noguchi, who had deep ties to the region.
