Inakadate, Rural village in Minamitsugaru County, Aomori Prefecture, Japan
Inakadate is a village in the Minamitsugaru District of Aomori Prefecture situated on flat agricultural terrain. The landscape is dominated by rice paddies and experiences cold, humid winters with heavy snow alongside brief summers.
The area was governed by the Tsugaru clan of Hirosaki Domain during the Edo period. In 1889, administrative reforms granted the settlement its official village status.
Since 1993, the village transforms rice paddies into seasonal art displays by planting different rice varieties to create large-scale patterns visible from above.
The village is accessible via regional railway lines and local transportation services. Exploring on foot or by bicycle allows visitors to fully experience the rice paddies and their seasonal art displays across the landscape.
During winter, residents create art patterns compressed into snowy fields using techniques that provide a second seasonal expression of the village's agricultural creativity.
