Wakayama Station, Railway station in Wakayama, Japan
Wakayama Station is a railway station in Wakayama, Japan, linking JR West and Wakayama Electric Railway services. The facility features eight ground-level tracks arranged across two side platforms and three island platforms, all connected by footbridges and underground passages.
The station was built in 1924 and opened for service on January 1, 1930. Over the following decades, it grew into a central transport hub for Wakayama Prefecture.
Trains on the Kishigawa Line carry designs inspired by local farming and regional traditions. These decorated carriages reflect the area's connection to its produce and the pride residents feel in their heritage.
The station sees an average of over 18,000 daily JR West passengers and more than 4,000 Wakayama Electric Railway passengers passing through. Connections to several regional lines are available, and footbridges make it easier to move between different platforms.
The Kuroshio limited express runs directly from here to larger cities including Tennoji, Shin-Osaka, and Kyoto. This connection makes the station a convenient starting point for travel across the Kansai region.
