Mount Asahi, Mountain summit in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan.

Mount Asahi is a summit reaching 1,870 meters that straddles the border between Yamagata Prefecture and Niigata Prefecture in northern Japan. The mountain actually consists of multiple peaks forming a connected ridge system across the boundary region.

The mountain gained attention through its inclusion in Kyūya Fukada's list of Japan's 100 notable mountains. This publication helped bring recognition to the summit among climbers and nature enthusiasts.

The name Asahi means morning sun in Japanese, referring to how this peak receives sunlight before surrounding mountains. This connection to the sunrise shapes how locals and visitors think about the place.

Multiple trails reach the summit, with the main route starting from the eastern side offering the most straightforward access. Visitors should prepare for mountain conditions and bring appropriate gear.

The mountain features three distinct peaks at different elevations: Ō-Asahidake at 1,870 meters, Nishi-Asahidake at 1,814 meters, and Ko-Asahidake at 1,648 meters. This variety gives hikers the chance to visit multiple summits during a single journey.
