Adachi Museum of Art, Art museum in Yasugi, Japan
The Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugi presents paintings and calligraphy alongside a Japanese garden featuring dry landscapes, white sand, moss, and ponds. Exhibition rooms open toward the outside and let the garden become part of the viewing experience.
Zenko Adachi founded the house in 1970 and brought together his collection of modern Japanese painting with the idea of a carefully planned garden. Since opening, the collection has grown steadily and the garden continues to be maintained and expanded.
The name honors Zenko Adachi, whose passion for painting and garden design shapes the house to this day. Paintings and garden stand side by side with equal weight and are meant to complement each other through the changing seasons.
A free shuttle runs regularly between Yasugi Station and the entrance. Parking for up to 400 cars and 40 buses is available at no charge.
Specialized American publications have ranked the garden as the finest in all of Japan every year since 2003. This rating appears regularly and has brought international attention to the house.
