Hase-dera, Buddhist temple in Kamakura, Japan.
The temple complex contains seven buildings positioned halfway up Mount Kamakura, offering views across Yuigahama beach and surrounding gardens.
Fujiwara no Fusasaki established Hase-dera in 736 CE, following the discovery of a wooden Kannon statue that had washed ashore near Kamakura.
The temple houses a 9.18-meter tall wooden statue of Kannon with eleven heads, representing different stages in the path to enlightenment.
Visitors can access the temple through a five-minute walk from Hase Station on the Enoden railway line, with operating hours from 8:00 to 17:00.
The temple grounds feature the Benten-Kutsu cave containing statues of Benzaiten, and display 50,000 Jizo figures memorializing children.
