Tachiarai is a small town in Fukuoka Prefecture's Mii district, situated along the Chikugo River valley roughly 30 kilometers southeast of Fukuoka City. It contains residential neighborhoods with schools and shops, surrounded by agricultural areas and natural landscape.
The Imperial Japanese Army built an air base here in 1919, then added a flight training school in 1940. American forces heavily bombed and destroyed these facilities in 1945, marking a dramatic turning point for the area.

The town is easy to reach by car and offers parking near the main attractions, especially at the peace museum. Visit on weekdays to avoid crowds and have a quieter experience walking through the town.
