Nakagawa

Nakagawa is a suburban town in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, that spreads across varied terrain. The northern part features denser development, while the south is dominated by farmland and open areas.

The territory matches the ancient kingdom of Nakoku from the Yayoi period, mentioned in Chinese chronicles. The municipality officially received its designation on October 1, 2018.

The name derives from the Naka River that flows through the area and shapes the local landscape. Rice fields and vegetable gardens occupy large parts of the southern zones, where residents continue traditional farming methods.

The nearest railway station lies outside the municipal border, so visitors rely on buses or cars to reach the area. National Route 385 connects the town to the wider Fukuoka region and makes navigation easier.

This municipality holds the record as the most recently designated city in the entire country. The elevation to full status occurred just a few years ago, making it a rare example of recent municipal reorganization.
