Kisshō-ji, Buddhist temple in Hon-Komagome, Japan
The temple grounds contain a bell tower, scripture repository, and various Buddhist structures arranged in a traditional layout pattern.
Founded in 1458 by Ota Dokan after discovering a golden seal inscribed with 'Kichijo' while digging a well during Edo Castle construction.
The temple served as Sendanrin, a major Soto Zen Buddhist education center where over 1,000 monk scholars studied during the Edo period.
The temple is accessible within 7 minutes by foot from Honkomagome Station on the Tokyo Metro Namboku Line in Bunkyo ward.
The name Kichijoji district in Musashino City originated from temple followers who relocated there after the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657.
