Chagang Province

Chagang is a province in northern North Korea that covers around 16,613 square kilometers and is dominated by mountains. Roughly 98 percent of the terrain sits at heights averaging 750 meters, creating a rugged landscape.

The province was created in 1949 when it separated from North Pyongan and gradually became an important military zone. The establishment of defense installations over time made it a strategically significant area within the country.

The Kanggye Broadcasting Station has transmitted local programs and educational content since 1947 across the mountainous territory. This station serves as a key communications link for people living in this remote mountainous area.
