Chagang Province

Chagang Province encompasses 16,613 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with 98 percent of its area reaching heights averaging 750 meters above sea level.

The province was established in 1949 through separation from North Pyongan and later became a central military zone housing defense installations.

Multiple universities in Kanggye, including institutions for education, technology, and medicine, contribute to the intellectual development of the northern region.

The province contains substantial mineral deposits, including copper, zinc, gold, lead, tungsten, and iron ores, supporting North Korea's industrial requirements.

The Kanggye Broadcasting Station, founded in 1947, transmits local programs and educational content throughout the mountainous province.
