The Sosan Hotel is a 30-story building with a light-colored concrete facade and symmetrical design rising 103 meters above Pyongyang. It contains 510 rooms distributed throughout its height as a major hotel structure in the city.
The hotel opened in 1989 as part of a large building program that included Liberation Street and the Kwangbok Department Store. This expansion phase shaped the modern layout of central Pyongyang.
Foreign and local visitors gather at the mezzanine floor bar to listen to piano performances while enjoying traditional North Korean refreshments.
The building offers several amenities including a swimming pool, fitness center, billiards room, karaoke lounge, photography studio, and barber shop. Guests can use these facilities to enhance their stay.
The name means West Mountain and refers to the hotel's elevated location offering views of the Taedong River. From higher floors, visitors can also see nearby sports facilities across the landscape.
