Uijeongbu

Uijeongbu is a major city in Gyeonggi Province, located northeast of Seoul and ringed by mountains with river valleys cutting through its terrain. The city combines residential districts, commercial areas, and green spaces into a substantial urban center serving commuters from the capital.

During the Joseon Dynasty, Uijeongbu served as the region's administrative center and controlled important trade routes. After 1950, the city shifted toward military functions when American bases were established, reshaping its growth and importance.

Budae-jjigae, a local stew, blends Korean and American ingredients that reflect the city's connection to nearby military bases. The dish has become a symbol of how this place absorbed outside influences into its own food culture.

The automated rail line connects various districts and links to Seoul's subway network for convenient daily travel. Exploring by public transit works well since most neighborhoods have access to rail stations.

Three mountains—Dobong, Surak, and Soyo—encircle the city and have shaped its character for centuries. These natural boundaries once served defensive purposes and still influence how the city feels today.
