Pyeongtaek

Pyeongtaek is a port city in Gyeonggi Province, about 70 kilometers south of Seoul, that combines three main economic sectors: semiconductor production, electronics, and military facilities. The city sits along the Yellow Sea coast and features a major industrial zone plus one of the country's four main harbors.

The city was established in 1940 from the merger of two districts and gained city status in 1986. The arrival of major US military bases in later decades transformed its economic and social profile.
