Seohae Bridge, Cable-stayed road bridge between Pyeongtaek and Dangjin, South Korea
Seohae Bridge is a cable-stayed road bridge that crosses the West Sea between Pyeongtaek and Dangjin. The structure spans roughly 7 kilometers and features two tall masts from which multiple steel cables extend to support the roadway.
Construction of the bridge began in the early 1990s as an ambitious project to link the provinces of Gyeonggi and Chungcheongnam directly. The work progressed over several years and the completed structure became a major transportation link between the two regions.
The bridge serves as a central meeting point for regional festivals and photography events, representing South Korean engineering advancement in the early 2000s.
The bridge accommodates six lanes of traffic for cars, trucks, and buses connecting the two provinces. Clear signage and lighting help drivers navigate safely, especially during rough weather conditions over the open water.
The project faced the challenge of spanning open water with strong maritime winds, requiring specialized engineering to ensure stability. These demanding conditions made it a notable engineering achievement for construction teams.
