Ansan Reed Marsh Park

Ansan Reed Marsh Park, Wetland park in Sangnok-gu, South Korea

Description

Ansan Reed Marsh Park is a wetland with expansive reed beds, artificial islands, and underwater vegetation spread across more than one million square meters of protected land. The site features walking trails, observation points, and dedicated spaces for viewing and photographing wildlife.

History

The site was created in 2002 from the former Gunja Bay, becoming South Korea's first constructed wetland system. This transformation converted a degraded bay into a functioning natural habitat.

Culture

The ecology center serves as a gathering place where visitors learn about wetland ecosystems and their importance to local communities. People come here to understand how water and nature shape the landscape around their city.

Practical

The park has about 1.7 kilometers of trails winding through the marshland with observation areas and photography spots. Wear sturdy shoes and prepare for changing weather, as the open water offers little shelter.

Did you know?

Surveys have found that more than a hundred bird species live in this area, making it a destination for bird watchers. The return of birds to what was once an industrial zone shows how well the restoration efforts have worked.
