Korea Railroad Museum, Railway museum in Uiwang-si, South Korea
The Korea Railroad Museum is a railway museum in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do, operated by Korail. It holds about 10,000 objects and displays 19 railway vehicles outdoors, including steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, electric multiple units and special presidential carriages.
The museum opened in 1988 and sits on grounds connected to Bugok Station, which began operations in 1944 during a major railway reorganization. The location links the past of train transportation to present-day exhibitions.
The museum shows how trains shaped Korea's development and what role they played in people's daily lives. You can see how train carriages, wagons, and furnishings changed over the decades.
From Uiwang Station on Line 1, take the east exit and walk south along the tracks for 7–8 minutes to the museum entrance. The museum is about an hour from central Seoul. Entry closes 30 minutes before closing time, and the museum is closed on Mondays, the day after public holidays, New Year's Day, and the Seollal and Chuseok holidays.
Several of the displayed vehicles, including historic train cars from earlier decades, have received official recognition as cultural treasures. This makes them especially valuable pieces of the national railway heritage.
