Bomun Lake Resort is a leisure complex on the shore of a lake in Gyeongju, with hotels, restaurants, shopping, a golf course, and a drive-in theater. A ferry port and several cultural venues, including a K-Pop Museum, are also spread across the grounds.
The South Korean government designated this area as a new tourism destination in 1971 and opened it to the public in 1979. Over the following decades, new hotels and cultural venues were added as the resort continued to grow.
The K-Pop Museum shows costumes, instruments, and personal items from Korean pop artists, giving a close look at the music scene. Nearby Yukbu Village recreates traditional Korean homes and crafts, offering a contrast between past and present Korean life.
The grounds are clearly signed and can be entered from several points, so getting around is straightforward. Arriving early in the day helps, as the open areas tend to fill up as the hours pass.
Free outdoor performances of traditional Korean music and dance take place during the warmer months on the resort grounds. These shows feature old musical forms and movement styles that are rarely seen outside of dedicated festivals.
