Love Land, Sculpture garden and sex museum in Jeju, South Korea
Love Land is a garden and museum on Jeju Island with 140 outdoor sculptures showing human forms and anatomy across grounds covering roughly two soccer fields. The works stand among lawns and paths that guide visitors through different thematic sections.
The park arose as a response to the boom in honeymoon travel to Jeju during the seventies when international trips were difficult. The island became the most popular destination for Korean newlyweds during the Cold War.
The sculptures were made by graduates from Hongik University to help young couples from arranged marriages develop a more open understanding of physical closeness. The grounds display human bodies and touch as part of a contemporary Korean approach to intimacy.
Entry is limited to visitors aged 18 and over, with a separate anime-themed area for younger children outside the main exhibition. The paths through the grounds are relatively short and there are places to sit at some stations.
Some of the sculptures serve as benches in anatomical form, while rotating monthly exhibitions show additional works by Korean artists. Visitors can interact with several of these installations.
