Upper Tobol Reservoir is a man-made lake on the Tobol River in Kostanai Region. The water body covers roughly 87 square kilometers with an average depth of about 6 meters and a shoreline stretching approximately 120 kilometers.
The reservoir was constructed and opened in 1977 as part of Soviet-era water resource development in the region. It forms part of a cascade system with other reservoirs and has served water storage and industrial needs since its creation.
The lake features open shorelines accessible for walking, fishing, and leisurely viewing of the surrounding landscape. Visit during late spring through early autumn when weather conditions are mild and the ground remains dry.
The reservoir is part of a water cascade system linked with Karatomar and Amangeldy reservoirs, allowing regulated management of water supplies across the region. This connected network was designed to collect water from a vast drainage basin spanning roughly 23000 square kilometers.
