Kostanay Maral Mosque, Islamic prayer center in Kostanay, Kazakhstan
Kostanay Maral Mosque is an Islamic prayer center in Kostanay featuring traditional Islamic architecture with domes, minarets, and intricate tile work throughout its exterior and interior spaces. The building combines classical Islamic design elements with local construction traditions.
The building was constructed in 1893 under the name Ak-Mechet and operated until Soviet authorities closed it in 1930. After reopening in 1991, it received its current name in 2002 to honor scholar Maral Ishan Kurmanuly.
The mosque functions as a gathering place for the local Muslim community, particularly during religious holidays and important occasions throughout the year. Its adjacent madrasah reinforces the role as a center for religious education and spiritual life.
The mosque is open to visitors and holds five daily prayer sessions that follow the Muslim community's daily rhythm. Visitors should be aware of prayer times and wear appropriate clothing to respect the religious setting.
The building was known as the White Mosque for many years before receiving its current name. This earlier designation was rooted in its original meaning and held firm in local memory.
