Church of the Holy Cross , Kaunas

The Church of the Holy Cross is a baroque religious building in central Kaunas featuring two prominent towers on its main facade. The interior displays a Latin cross layout with vaulted sections, geometric ornamentation, and triangular pediments adorning the walls.

Carmelite monks purchased land near the Nemunas River in 1706 and began construction of this religious building. The structure was consecrated in 1720 and has served as a spiritual center for the community since then.

The church interior contains seventeen vault compositions painted by Tyrolean artist John Kerle in 1898, depicting scenes from Jesus Christ's life.

During the cholera outbreak of 1831, the Russian authorities converted the first floor of the monastery into a medical facility for patients.
