Merkurijus, Commercial building on Laisvės Avenue, Kaunas, Lithuania.

The five-floor building covered 12,900 square meters of retail space, with large windows and concrete elements defining its late modernist architecture.

The structure, designed by architect Antanas Algimantas Sprindys, opened its doors on January 3, 1983, following seven years of construction.

During the Soviet period, the shopping center became a central meeting point where 20,000 daily visitors explored approximately 10,000 different products.

The building employed 800 staff members and operated until 2009, when economic changes led to its closure and subsequent demolition.

Before Merkurijus, the location housed the Triumf cinema in a two-story building owned by merchant Zelmanas Šternas.
