Antano Juozapavičiaus Bridge, Steel bridge in Alytus, Lithuania.
The Antano Juozapavičiaus Bridge is a steel structure that spans the Neman River and connects Alytus across two sides. The construction comprises five spans with a total length of 195 meters and a width of 10.2 meters.
The original structure was built in 1909 but faced destruction during World War I when the retreating Russian forces demolished it. The present-day version was completed and inaugurated in 1937 as a replacement.
The bridge carries the name of Antanas Juozapavičius, an officer who died during the independence struggle. This naming choice reflects how the Lithuanian people honor those who fought for their nation.
The bridge is passable year-round and serves as a major transportation route for vehicles and pedestrians in Alytus. It offers an even crossing with accessible walkways on both sides.
When completed in 1937, this structure was the largest and most advanced bridge in the entire Baltic region. Its design represented a significant engineering achievement for the area at that time.
