Aukštieji Šančiai hillfort, Ancient hillfort in Šančiai, Lithuania
The archaeological site stands on a high terrace above the Nemunas River, covered with oak trees forming a natural woodland setting.
The hillfort remains from early defensive structures in Lithuania, reflecting ancient military engineering methods used by Baltic tribes to protect their territories.
Next to the hillfort, members of the Romuva religious community built a fire altar and created a stone circle calendar measuring 14 meters.
The hillfort is accessible via K. Baršausko Street, with a path leading to the site before reaching the nearby cemetery.
One oak tree near the hillfort bears markings attributed to Perkūnas, the Baltic thunder god, according to local traditions.
