Church of the Assumption, Kelmė, Catholic church in Kelmė, Lithuania.
The Church of the Assumption in Kelmė is a Catholic brick building with a tall tower facade and three naves separated by pillars arranged in a Latin cross layout. The interior ends with a three-sided apse and accommodates worshippers from surrounding villages.
The first parish in Kelmė was established in 1416 by Grand Duke Vytautas the Great. The current brick structure was built later and completed in 1908.
The church displays paintings by Sofia Riomerienė, including representations of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Francis. These works reflect the artistic and spiritual life of the local community.
The church serves communities from the surrounding villages of Dikšiai, Kušleikiai, Norkiai, Sutkiai, and Tolišiai. Visitors should check for active service times when planning a visit.
The building houses an organ manufactured by the Latvian company Emil Martin & Co in 1913 with neogothic design and romantic character. This instrument represents a rare example of Baltic organ craftsmanship from the early 1900s.
