MO Museum, Contemporary art museum in central Vilnius, Lithuania.
MO Museum is a contemporary art venue in central Vilnius housed in a white building with intersecting geometric shapes that catch the eye. A spiraling staircase winds through multiple levels, connecting different exhibition spaces and guiding visitors upward.
The building opened in 2018 on the site of a former cinema that screened films until 2005. This transformation marked a shift in how the location served the public, moving from entertainment to art exhibition.
The collection shows how Lithuanian artists developed their voices and styles after 1960, reflecting the country's changing society. Walking through the galleries, you notice how artistic approaches shifted across different decades.
The museum sits in the city center and is accessible on foot from nearby streets and public spaces. Plan your visit with enough time to move through the levels at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.
Architect Daniel Libeskind designed this building as one of his smallest commissions, creating interior circular forms that contrast with the angular exterior. This clever interplay between rounded and sharp shapes gives the space a distinctive feel.
