Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania, Gas transmission infrastructure between Jauniūnai and Hołowczyce, Poland and Lithuania
The Gas Interconnection Poland-Lithuania is a pipeline that links the two countries to transport natural gas in both directions. The line runs underground between the borders and carries energy between Western Europe and the Baltic region, supporting regional supply networks.
The project began as an idea in the 1990s to create a direct energy link between Western Europe and the Baltic region. The European Commission officially recognized and financed the initiative, which led to the construction of this important energy infrastructure.
This gas infrastructure marks the first direct energy connection between Continental Europe and the Eastern Baltic region, supporting energy market integration.
The pipeline runs underground and is not directly visible to visitors since it is buried below ground level. Those interested can learn about the route and how it works from a distance through available information resources.
The infrastructure meets over 40 percent of annual natural gas requirements for Baltic countries and Finland through its transmission network.
