Didžiokų koplyčia, Chapel in Didžiokai, Lithuania
Didžiokų koplyčia is a rotunda-style building featuring neoclassical design with a dome and a basement level used as a mausoleum. The structure showcases typical classical architectural details throughout.
Count Kostas Jelenskis commissioned this building as a chapel and mausoleum at the end of the 19th century. It formed part of a larger estate with landscaped grounds.
The chapel served as a workspace where sculptor Aloyzas Smilingis set up his studio and created stone works. Today visitors can still sense this artistic legacy within the space.
The building sits near road 172 in the Molėtai area and is relatively accessible by car. Visitors should note that the setting is rural, so some preparation for the remote location is helpful.
After returning to the ownership of Mykolas Devenis's daughter in 1998, the building became a cultural center. Today it operates under the care of the Molėtai photography club Ekspozicija.
