The Holy Virgin Mary's Apparition Chapel in Šiluva is a small place of worship in the Lithuanian town of Šiluva, built on a site where a vision of Mary was reported. Its altar rests directly on a venerated stone, above which stands a statue of Mary that forms the focal point of the interior.
A vision of Mary was reported here in 1608, and a bishop built the first wooden chapel on the site in 1663. The current building replaced that earlier structure in the early 20th century.
Visitors walk around the central altar while praying, continuing a practice that has connected the faithful to this place for centuries. The stone beneath the altar is treated as sacred, and people gather around it to express their devotion.
The chapel stands just west of the larger basilica in Šiluva and is open throughout the year. It is easy to visit both sites together since they are within walking distance of each other.
The architect who designed the current building in the 1920s drew on French architectural influences, which is uncommon for a small Lithuanian town. This gives the chapel a look that stands apart from other religious buildings in the region.
