Stolzembourg Castle, Medieval castle in Stolzembourg, Luxembourg.
Stolzembourg Castle stands on a hill in the center of Stolzembourg village, combining medieval origins with elements of a Scottish-style manor house built in 1898. The structure displays two distinct architectural phases, with later additions layered over the original foundations.
A first defensive tower was built in the 12th century to monitor the road along the River Our, with the fortress first documented in 1315. In the late 19th century, the building was then converted into a modern manor house.
The castle holds national monument status in Luxembourg and represents the transformation from a medieval fortress to a late 19th-century manor house. Visitors can observe this evolution from outside and see how different periods are layered into the structure.
The castle is privately owned and can only be viewed from outside, from vantage points in the surrounding village area. The best views are from the footpaths and open spaces that surround the building and offer clear sight lines to the facade.
In September 1944, American troops crossed the border into Nazi Germany for the first time from this location. This area played a strategic role in the Allied advance into the occupied region.
