Riga International Airport, International airport in Marupe Parish, Latvia
Riga International Airport is an international airport in Mārupe Parish, Latvia. The runway stretches over three kilometers in length and connects the country to more than one hundred destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
The airport opened in 1974 and replaced the earlier downtown Spilve Airport in central Riga. This relocation allowed for the expansion of larger aircraft and international routes after World War II.
The terminal buildings showcase contemporary Baltic architecture while incorporating elements that reflect Latvia's transportation heritage through exhibitions and design.
An express bus runs regularly from the terminal to downtown Riga and takes about half an hour. Travelers arriving by car will find parking options nearby, where advance booking can be helpful.
The airport uses a voucher system for taxi rides that guarantees travelers fixed rates. This arrangement was introduced to protect passengers from excessive charges.
