Riga Aviation Museum, Aviation museum at Skultes iela 35, Skulte, Latvia
The Riga Aviation Museum is an outdoor collection of aircraft near Riga International Airport featuring approximately forty helicopters and planes. The machines are arranged in rows, displaying Soviet and modern aviation equipment from different periods.
An aviation engineer established the museum in 1956 with a Soviet trainer aircraft as its first acquisition. Over the decades, the collection grew through the acquisition of machines from different generations and origins.
The place served as a training center for young pilots during the Soviet period, where they learned aviation theory and mechanics. This connection to educating a generation of aviation enthusiasts remains part of its character today.
The museum is located on Skultes iela in the north of Riga and is most easily reached by bus. The exhibition is not covered, so weather is an important factor when planning a visit.
The collection includes several military aircraft, including a large Soviet-era long-range bomber that rarely appears in European museums. These heavy machines draw aviation enthusiasts from across the region.
