Naukšēni Municipality, Former municipality in Vidzeme region, Latvia.
Naukšēni Municipality was an administrative division in the Vidzeme region of northern Latvia that covered a substantial rural territory. The area consisted of several small villages and scattered settlements distributed across forested and open landscape.
The territory formed in 2009 through the merger of two earlier parishes and operated as an independent administrative unit for more than a decade. In 2021 it was integrated into the larger Valmiera Municipality, marking the end of its separate administration.
The municipality maintained international connections through twin town relationships with Borgholzhausen in Germany and Helme in Estonia, fostering cross-cultural exchanges.
The area was sparsely populated and required a car or local transport to bridge larger distances between villages. This region was typical of rural Latvia with fewer tourist facilities than urban centers.
The area preserves a memorial honoring those who endured persecution and hardship during the Soviet era. This monument reflects difficult historical chapters that shaped the local community.
