Taagepera Castle, Art Nouveau castle and hotel in Tõrva Rural Municipality, Estonia
Taagepera Castle is an Art Nouveau manor house in Tõrva Rural Municipality with a prominent tower at its western corner and operates today as a hotel with restaurant and spa facilities. The building combines historical rooms with modern amenities and offers sauna, massage, and accommodation services for guests.
A Baltic baron commissioned a prominent architect to build this manor house as a private residence in 1907. After the First World War, it was converted into a health facility that treated people with respiratory illnesses.
The castle represents a fusion of Estonian manor house traditions and Art Nouveau architectural elements from the early twentieth century.
Access is straightforward for visitors since the building operates as a hotel and day guests can use the restaurant and spa areas. It is best visited during daytime hours when public spaces are fully available.
The building was so well known that it appeared on Estonian stamps in 1933 depicting the fight against tuberculosis. These stamps show how important the health facility was for the nation's wellbeing.
