Akmeņrags lighthouse, National industrial monument lighthouse in Saka Parish, Latvia.
The Akmeņrags lighthouse is a red brick structure standing 38 meters tall on the Baltic Sea coast, with a cylindrical shape topped by a balcony and lantern room. Inside, more than 126 steps lead to an observation deck offering broad views across the water.
The structure was rebuilt in 1921 following destruction of an earlier lighthouse from 1879 during World War I. Since then it has continuously served its function as a maritime navigation aid on the Latvian shore.
The lighthouse displays Baltic amber specimens in an outdoor exhibition that reflects the coastal region's maritime heritage. Visitors can sense the traditional importance of the sea to local life through these collected pieces.
Climbing to the observation deck requires physical effort due to numerous steps. Sturdy footwear and caution on narrow stairs are important, especially during windy or wet conditions.
The site marks one of the Baltic Sea's most hazardous zones, where a shallow stone bank extends into the water and poses navigational challenges for vessels. This shallow area has threatened ships across centuries, highlighting why the lighthouse became essential.
