Varakļāni Manor

Varakļāni Manor is a late 18th-century classicist residence with balanced proportions and symmetrical design. The three-story building features regular window placement and a centered entrance facade that exemplifies the architectural style of its era.

Construction took place between 1783 and 1789 under Italian architect Vincenzo Macotti for Count Michael von der Borch. After Latvian independence, the building was converted into a school and functioned as a gymnasium until the Soviet occupation.

The building served as a home for noble families and continues to shape the local identity of Varakļāni. Its role in local education created lasting memories for many residents who studied within its walls.

The building now houses a regional museum and tourist information center where visitors can learn about local history and architecture. Allow time to explore both the interior and the exterior structure to fully appreciate the site.
