Aldara parks, Public park in Sarkandaugava district, Riga, Latvia
Aldara Parks is a public garden in Sarkandaugava with natural ponds and walking paths divided into formal and landscape sections. The site features a bike park, climbing tower, children's playground, and a cultural museum housing historical exhibits.
The site began as a private garden for a brewery owner in the late 19th century, designed with artificial ruins and decorative ponds. It was later transformed into a public park while preserving some of its original character.
The Dauderi cultural museum within the park displays about 7,000 artifacts from a private collection donated in 1989 that document Latvian life during the 20th century. Visitors can see personal mementos and everyday objects that tell the story of the country's past.
The park is accessible daily from 7 to 22 and has plenty of space for walking and exploring on varied paths. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and check the weather, especially if planning to use the climbing facility or visit the museum.
The climbing tower with observation platform is a remnant from when the grounds had two artificial ruin towers for decoration. Only one of these towers survives today, now functioning as a climbing training facility that offers views across the park.
