Astra Lux, High-rise building in Purvciems, Riga, Latvia
Astra Lux is a residential high-rise in Purvciems consisting of two connected blocks, where the lower section has 22 floors and the upper section reaches 24 floors. The structure stands approximately 80 meters tall and contains 158 apartments positioned to access nearby urban services.
The building was completed in 2007 and won first place in Riga's architectural competition that year, beating 13 other new structures. This marked a turning point in how the city approached modern residential design.
The building shows how residential design evolved in Latvia during the 2000s, with French-style balconies that became popular in new constructions of that period.
The building is located in Purvciems, a residential neighborhood with easy access to public transportation and everyday services. Visitors can view the exterior from the street and explore the surroundings, as standard residential access applies to the complex.
The facade has a distinctive tapered design facing south, crafted to maximize natural light throughout the day. Architect Juris Poga carefully planned this feature to enhance the living experience for residents.
