The Turaida Museum Reserve contains a red brick castle, wooden church, manor buildings, and exhibits spread across 42 hectares of land.
The construction of Turaida Castle began in 1214 under the Archbishop of Riga, replacing an earlier wooden fortress of the Livonian tribe.
The Dainu Hill section of the reserve features stone sculptures commemorating the collectors and preservers of Latvian folk songs through centuries.
The museum complex includes a visitor center, guided tours in multiple languages, educational programs, and access to the main tower viewing platform.
The name Turaida originates from the ancient Livonian language, meaning 'Garden of God' in reference to the surrounding Gauja Valley landscape.
