Ben Youssef Madrasa, Islamic college in Medina district, Marrakesh, Morocco
The Ben Youssef Madrasa features a central courtyard with a reflective pool, surrounded by 130 student rooms arranged across two levels.
The madrasa, commissioned by Sultan Abdallah al-Ghalib in 1564, operated as North Africa's largest Islamic educational institution until its closure in 1960.
Students at the madrasa specialized in Maliki Islamic law and jurisprudence, following traditional methods of religious and legal education.
Following extensive restoration work completed in April 2022, visitors can explore the madrasa daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The institution contains an ancient Andalusi marble basin from Cordoba, connecting the site to the Islamic heritage of medieval Spain.
