Ksar of Taourirt

The Ksar of Taourirt extends across the eastern part of Ouarzazate, featuring traditional mud-brick construction and intricate geometric patterns on its exterior walls.

Built in the 17th century, this ksar formed the original nucleus of Ouarzazate before the French Protectorate established their garrison town in the area.

The ksar contained both a mosque and a synagogue, reflecting the coexistence of Muslim and Jewish communities until the mid-20th century.

Visitors can explore the narrow streets of the ksar, which connect to an oasis and feature local craftsmen working on current restoration projects.

The structure demonstrates the durability of traditional pisé construction, with walls made from a mixture of earth, straw, and lime that withstand time.
