Valea Morilor lake, lake in Chișinău
Valea Morilor lake is an artificial reservoir set within a large urban park in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Wide, flat pathways run along the water's edge, bordered by grassy areas and trees, with the lake covering a considerable portion of the park's total area.
The lake was built in the 20th century to serve as a water supply for the city of Chisinau. Over the following decades, its role shifted and it became one of the main recreational areas for the city's residents.
The name Valea Morilor means Valley of the Mills in English, recalling the watermills that once worked along this stretch of water. Today, locals jog, cycle, and picnic along the shores, and the lake draws people of all ages throughout the week.
The paths around the lake are flat and well maintained, making them easy to walk, cycle, or jog at any pace. Visiting in the early morning or late afternoon offers a quieter experience, as the area draws a steady flow of people during peak hours.
A small figure of the Little Prince is fixed to a fencepost near the lake's shore and is easy to walk past without noticing it. This tiny bronze sculpture is considered the smallest public monument in Moldova and rewards those who look closely.
