Romashka Tower, Soviet residential tower in Chisinau, Moldova
Romashka Tower is a circular concrete residential building with 22 floors rising to about 77 meters (253 feet), designed with a distinctive shape that echoes camomile flower petals. Inside, the structure is divided into two-room apartments per unit, with shared facilities distributed on each floor.
Construction of the tower began in 1978 under architect O. Vronski and engineer A. Marian, with completion in 1984 during the late Soviet period. The building emerged as part of the urban development initiatives of that era.
The name Romashka comes from the Russian word for camomile flower, reflecting the building's distinctive petal-like shape. Residents have developed their own relationship with the space, making it part of the local identity.
The building is best visited on foot, with access available from various points around its circular structure. Its location in Chisinau makes it easy to include in a city visit.
After 1990, residents added unauthorized balconies and terraces that transformed the building's original socialist uniformity. These unofficial changes show how inhabitants personalized the space over decades.
