Kumanovo

Kumanovo is a city in northern North Macedonia and serves as a key transport hub for the region. It lies at 340 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountains including Karadag, Gradištanska, Mangovica, and German mountain.

The city experienced a pivotal moment in 1912 during the First Balkan War when Serbian forces defeated Ottoman troops in the Battle of Kumanovo. This event marked a turning point in regional power dynamics.

The annual jazz festival draws musicians from different countries to perform, while the Days of Comedy festival brings regional theater groups to the stage.

Near the city lies the Kokino megalithic observatory, a 4,000-year-old astronomical site used by ancient peoples to track movements in the sky. This location ranks among the oldest known observatories and draws history enthusiasts.
