Church of St. Panteleimon

Alexios Angelos, son of Constantine Angelos, ordered the construction of this religious complex in 1164 during the final years of Byzantine prosperity.

The interior walls display intricate frescoes from the Komnenian period, including detailed scenes from the Passion of Christ and various religious narratives.

The church stands within an enclosed monastery complex near Skopje, maintaining its original architectural elements despite multiple restoration works.

The frescoes demonstrate early humanistic artistic elements that emerged 140 years before similar techniques appeared in Italian Renaissance paintings.
