Mustafa Paşa Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Old Bazaar, Skopje, North Macedonia.
The Mustafa Pasha Mosque is an Ottoman mosque in the Old Bazaar of Skopje, sitting on a raised platform above the surrounding area. The structure features a central dome, a slender minaret, and decorative stone carvings across its exterior.
The mosque was built in 1492 by Çoban Mustafa Pasha, who later became vizier to Sultan Selim I from 1512 to 1520. The building reflects the enduring Ottoman presence in the region during this period.
The mosque displays geometric patterns and calligraphy that reflect Ottoman Islamic artistic traditions from its era. These visual elements appear throughout the interior and give the space its distinctive character.
The mosque welcomes visitors outside of prayer times, so checking beforehand about service schedules is helpful. Entering with respectful clothing is important, especially in the prayer hall.
Beside the mosque stands a mausoleum holding the remains of Umi, daughter of Mustafa Pasha. A rose garden on the grounds offers a quiet outdoor space within this religious complex.
