Pelister's Eyes, Glacial lakes in Pelister National Park, North Macedonia.

Pelister's Eyes are two mountain lakes situated at different elevations, with the Big Lake at 2,218 meters and the Small Lake at 2,180 meters. Both water bodies sit within a forest of five-needle pines and are surrounded by rocky slopes of the Baba Mountain range.

These lakes formed during the Ice Age through glacial activity, which carved deep basins into the mountain. The two water bodies remain visible evidence of the ancient geological forces that shaped this landscape.

These lakes hold meaning for local communities as symbols of their bond with the high mountain landscape. Visitors often sense the importance of this place when standing at the water's edge surrounded by ancient pine trees.

The hiking route to these lakes is demanding and starts from Nizhepole village, covering approximately 18 kilometers total. Sturdy footwear, plenty of water, and good physical condition are essential for making the journey comfortably.

These lakes feed multiple river sources across the region and are vital to the survival of the rare five-needle pine forest that surrounds them. Visitors frequently spot mountain goats and eagles that make this remote location their home.
